The real threat is basing policies, doctrines and actions on “holy” faith based dogmatic ideologies e.g. Christianity or Islam or secular faith based dogmatic ideologies e.g. Marxism or Fascism instead of on logic, reason, facts and evidence.

Mariliadeverdade, you have to understand this point about atheism. Atheists are against all religion, note that, ALL. Sarah Palin is pro Christianity, anti-islam. By no means whatever are atheists and christian fundies ‘on the same team’ just because you find one thing in common with them. Think about what you say first.

Politicians do what politicians do – It was Geroge W. Bush who declared Islam a religion of peace.
But the Hitchens point is that while religions may not all be equally dangerous, they all share the same defect and equally false. And once you go down the road of attributing authority to the supernatural, then why not Islam? The Koran is just as likely to be the word of God as any holy book.
Because Olberman would attack Palin if she said the sun rises in the east and sets in the west.

i don’t particularly like Sarah Palin, and i am not trying to defend her. but pointing a finder at the Christian fundies when atheists like Hitchens are in the same boat makes no sense. so are the atheists and the Christian fundies now playing on the same team? i guess it is like they say, the extremes always resemble each other

- if all religions are just as evil as islam then what is the point of listening to Hitchens, isn’t it the same as saying that all religions are equally great? and if all religions are the same (great or evil) then islam is not really a threat, just a radical path to God.
Yes, but since then an unstable Muslim country has acquired nuclear weapons, and more are seeking them.
Winston Churchill at the turn of the century said that Islam would conquer the West if it weren’t for the West’s scientific advantage, but that gap is rapidly closing, and I think that’s what’s happening, it’s almost amazing how much of a prophet Churchill was, and that statement was made when he was in his 20s!
That’s certainly true – I don’t think Hitchens would regard the threats posed by different religions to be equally dangerous. Only that the they all suffer from the same defect. But even the threats change. Hitchens has said that if asked which religion was the most dangerous 75 years ago, it would be the Roman Catholic Church for its strong support for fascism and totalitarianism in Europe.
Hitchens has stated that he thinks Islam is the greatest modern threat among all religions.
He thinks religion itself is evil, but I don’t think he believes every religion is as much of a threat. Even Richard Dawkins and Sam Harris recognize that Islam is particularly intolerant, or at least that the Muslim community is particularly fanatic.
Hitchens sends his kids to a Quaker school, somehow I feel he wouldn’t send them to a madrassa.
Because Sarah Palin is a christian, and a fundamentalist one at that. Hitchens brands all religion poisonous and evil, although clearly he thinks Islam an abomination, which it is. Everyone would agree with Sarah Palin that Islam is EVIL, but she loses credibility sadly because as luck would have it, she happens to be in the less evil religions. Hitchens is an atheist, it should be expected he calls any religion evil, whilst Palin could be trying to sell her brand, although not necessarily.

I can think of 2 very good reasons.
1. Hitchens thinks that every other religion is just as evil.
2. Hitchens isn’t running for public office.
@mariliadeverdade The example you cite about the odious oberman chiding Sara Palin typifies just how far off true north the cult of atheism has Already damaged the secular mindset.
They cant even get their priorities straight.
I had caricatured it as Dawkins with his head on the chopping block, self righteously chiding the muslim axeman as to the folly of religion till his head was (thankfully} hacked off.
They have demonstrated nothing but capricious self centeredness to this point,

Although more than likely too late, the voice of intellectual atheism is only now directing its focus at the REAL threat that A (singular) religion poses.
Too long He and his contemporaries have grouped Christianity as Equally Evil and corrupt as Any religion.
This kind of Capricious and gratuitous methodology has garnered unto themselves throngs of hopeful atheist imitators, but enabled the murderous muslim to escape reproach with the same retribution as one would penalize a televangelist.
I’ve tried posting the article from which this video originates twice now and it hasn’t worked. So, google “Zombietime Christopher Hitchens” and it should be the first result. The video is from a blog called Zombietime and he used to have the entire video up on Youtube before they took it down for supposedly violation copyright rules. The article is very good, and explains a lot about the debate that isn’t revealed in this one, cursory video.

I think he’s just lighting up a smoke at the end. Although, I’d like to see the debate in its entirety.

The audience seems to support Hedges. I think this is why Hitchens appears to storm out at the end.
