Western “imperialism” tends to annoy people in the Middle East. Do you know why Iran is so hostile? Because the US supported the Shah, a brutal dictatorship. The Iranians overthrew the Shah and established a democracy in its place. The US didn’t like this democracy because it refused to let the them and Britain control the Iranian oil industry. So, the CIA threw a coup (Operation Ajax) that put the Shah back in power. This paved the way for the 1979 Islamic Revolution that overthrew the Shah.
